Bringing it back.
"Away in a Manger" - Elton killed it!
"When I Look into Your Holiness" - Elton tainted this one, too.
What songs have been tainted for you? Is it because they are bad songs or because a weird experience was tied to singing it?
For me, "When I Look" was when Elton began to dance a slow 80's tribute to the old-school Vineyard version. Thanks. But I'm gonna bring it back ANYWAY!

HAVEN
i was talking to my dad the other week about haven. he was asking me what we do for worship, so on our off week, i went to my dad's church. there was sunday school first, i went to the young adult one. i don't think they took well to me, when they asked if there was any questions and i asked "so why did jesus come down from heaven, because he had it really good up in heaven." the person giving the lesson kinda looked at me and scoffed.
i don't know what the purpose of sunday school is anymore. it feels like i already know enough about jesus and his salvation to go out and share the gospel. if i wanted to study the bible i could do it on my own. is there something wrong with thinking that?
after that, i met up with my dad for service. i was trying to explain to him what a sunday would be like in our community. it was the same way i remember, but more "traditional"? i don't know the word for it. all of the pastors wore robes now, along with the choir and such.
they'd start with what we would do as worship, but it was more of a sing-a-long of hymns and such. the choir would do a special song. after that, there would be annoucements, and another pastor would talk for a bit, then they'd have communion.
at this point, i leaned over to my dad and said, "if we were at haven, worship would go to about here. except that we'd be sharing a meal together, instead of the pastor going on with another 30 minute sermon." to which he said, "nice." and then we got up and left. :P
this is kinda just a thought. we also talked about other things like how we were trying to figure out what was hindering us from worshiping God. and then we got rid of it. anyways, this is my little blurb for the week.
questions? comments? hate mail?
woot.

What jumps out at you?
I found this article about what Christian worship should be... Intersting stuff.
Click.
I'm intrigued about the part on how worship should be "in the world, but not of it." How does our worship of God reflect the culture we're in? We are pretty decent at using Western music styles. But is there more? How much should being in San Jose shape our worship?
How should we respond to these basic ideas about Christian worship? Are we missing any pieces? Are we thriving in some ways more than others? How conscious is our congregation about this kind of stuff (worship theology)?

So, feedback this week?
How did y'all feel about this past Sunday's worship time? Any thoughts on the set, the flow, the execution of the music, the communion-seating arrangement?
I'd like to hear your thoughts.

this sunday's set!
When I Think About The Lord
Be Glorified
Thou Lovely Source of True Delight
Priceless Treasure
i've been meaning to test out this new program called Open Song. it's supposedly far superior to powerpoint. it also does anouncements and finds scripture. oh, and instead of continuously typing in the same songs over and over and over, it collects them in a database, where you can pick from a list that you've compiled over a length of time, so in case our cereal-eating worship leader decides to riff off on a song that wasn't planned, (and assuming that it is in our database), we can pull it up in about 2 seconds! i think my favorite feature about the program is that it is open source, which means we don't have to pay a dime! it's a beautiful thing.

First worship session with the new blogger service
This is the best. Blogging is the best invention since pastureized milk. How did people ever survive before globbing? I mean blogging...how did people survive before blogging?
Worship songs for 7/9/06:
In the Secret
New song that I don't know
Feel free to fill in the name of the new song if you have it.
Also, I think we're meeting on Friday, 7/14 in the evening to prep for worship on Sunday, 7/16.

Interesting
So, we can post all kinds of messages, and they just push the other ones down. I kind of understand this now. Um...do I have to worry about the entire world reading what I post? Should I try to limit my rants about Warren's cereal in his car to 100 words or less? Can we talk about cars here, or is there a subject constraint? This is the internet, right? So no rules!
How does this work?
OK. I'm in the blog thing. Now, how does this work? Do we just publish, and it gets posted? Can we respond to other people's blogs? There must be some help feature somewhere. Let me find it.
Done...let me read this.
Done...let me read this.

Bienvenidos!
this blog was created for us to post articles, ask questions, share thoughts, give insights, and complain about the guy who leads worship every sundayoh, and it's also to test out the idea for a REAL online community, not like xanga, as elton would put it. um... that's all that i can think of for now, so SHAZAM!
